What is Stocktaking?
Stocktaking is about making the collection accessible and relevant. It ensures that the database record reflects the actual collection. Users of the catalogue are quick to point out when the catalogue says an item should be on the shelves and if isn’t; of course, frustrating when this happens. An accurate stock take ensures that items are labeled correctly and housed in the appropriate collection, which assists accessibility. Accurate stock take figures are used to identify areas that have had losses in stock and to assist with identification of strengths and weaknesses in the collection for ongoing collection development.
Benefits?
- Each resource is checked and put aside for mending, if required.
- Ensures those ‘misplaced’ candy wrappers, chewing gum and other items left between and behind books are found and discarded.
- Assist with finding those items that haven’t been checked-in properly.

Dear Prof./Dr./Sir/Madam,
Kindly be informed that starting from 20th February until 9th March 2012 (during trimester break), Siti Hasmah Digital Library for both campuses will be organizing stock-take activity. In view of this, all borrowing activities will be suspended during this period of time. You may return/renew your book but we will not allow any book to be checked-out.
Customers are advised to utilize our 24 Hour Learning Point in both campuses. We try to minimize any hiccups during this activity and your kind cooperation and understanding is very much appreciated. Any inconvenience caused is very much regretted.
